A new dental laser technology makes dental procedures faster and easier than ever at Beverly Hills Cosmetic Dentist Dr. Kourosh Maddahi’s offices. Dr. Maddahi is committed to practicing gentle dentistry at his Beverly Hills office. He continually searches for new dental tools and methods that eliminate dental procedure pain for his patients. After thoroughly researching new dental drill technologies, he recently added the Waterlase MD Turbo to his practice. This cool dental laser allows Dr. Maddahi to treat his patients without the noise, smell or pain of a traditional drill. As the tooth or gum area is bathed with a cool stream of water, a laser gently and quietly addresses dental problems including dental decay, cavities, smile makeovers, gum disease and other dental issues. During a cavity procedure, the laser quickly and precisely removes dental decay without affecting the surrounding tooth structure. The laser also is used to re-contour and reshape the gums. It also treats infected or inflamed due to periodontal issues. Click here to see a video on the Waterlase system. Because the Waterlase system is extremely gentle, the result is little or no bleeding and less swelling. Unlike a traditional drill, the laser does not generate heat or cause the tooth or gum to vibration. For the patient, this means a dental procedure can be done with little or no anesthesia. Imagine leaving a dental office with a smile instead of that numb, uncomfortable feeling. Dr. Kourosh Maddahi’s commitment to state-of-the-art dentistry has resulted in close to 25 years of patient’s smiles. What many of use don’t realize is that good dental health translates to good overall health. Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, a Los Angeles family dentist, educates his patients about the ways a healthy mouth can keep you healthy. Problems due to dental issues were often thought only to affect the mouth. But research has shown that dental issues can contribute to many health problems. When dental issues, such as gum disease, root canals, cavities or other problems, are left untreated the result can be quite serious. “Common problems like gum disease have been found to increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes as well as worsening the severity of diabetes in some patients. Gum disease also can lead to immune system issues, contribute to osteoporosis and lower a patient’s resistance to infections. These are only some of the reasons why proper treatment for dental issues is vital to overall health,” according to Dr. Maddahi. With the use of advanced dental technology and equipment, Dr. Maddahi is able to diagnose and treat dental issues quickly. One important piece of diagnostic equipment is the 40x by 1600x high-resolution Trinocular Compound Microscope. The microscope is used to analyze both types and number of mouth bacteria present. When harmful bacteria are identified, Dr. Maddahi can determine which periodontal treatments are necessary. State-of-the-art dental lasers can help treat infected or diseased soft tissue and gums. The laser is used to sterilize or cut the tissue and many times with little or no need for anesthetic. The treatment both reduces the amount of inflammation and eliminates harmful bacteria for up to two months. The treated tissue is then able to grow back bacteria free.  Click here to learn more about state-of-the-art dental equipment at Dr. Maddahi’s office. Same-Day Dental Implants Can be An Advanced Alternative to Bridges and Dentures

Missing and severely damaged teeth are a problem for millions of Americans every year. While dentures and bridges used to be the only cosmetic solution for missing teeth, dental implants now offer an alternative to wearing uncomfortable and unnatural-looking prosthetic dental devices. New advances in dental implant technology have made the procedure a dental restoration choice for many patients. Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, a cosmetic dentist in Los Angeles, specializes in implant dentistry at his Beverly Hills office. “Many patients think that dental implants are not a good option for them because of certain dental or medical conditions. However, advancements in implant technology have made this procedure more widely available.” Dental implants can be placed for patients of any age and can be used to replace one or several missing teeth. Implants are commonly done for patients who have had some type of gum disease or other periodontal issues that led to damaged or missing teeth. It should be noted that there are certain precautions that need to be taken for patients with medical conditions like diabetes or high blood pressure. Some patients are interested in dental implants to replace their existing dentures or bridges. Implants also can be used to stabilize patients dentures. Bone loss is common for patients who have lost teeth. In these cases, bone grafts may be necessary to properly secure the implant. One of the past drawbacks of dental implants is that the treatment could take months to complete. The patient would need to go to multiple appointments to prepare for the procedure and determine where the implants should be placed. With new dental advances, dental implants don’t have to take months to complete. Dr. Maddahi now offers his patients the latest in dental implant technology with convenient, same-day implant procedures. The Galileos Implant technology by Sirona uses a specially developed 3-D imaging process to give Dr. Maddahi a complete 360-degree image of the patient’s mouth and jaw area. These images are taken in a matter of minutes using cone beam technology during the preparation appointment. Dr. Maddahi examines these images and is able to view where the patient’s sinus and nerves are located. He also uses the images to determine the location, length and quality of the bone in the jaw. All of this information is used to prepare a model of the patient’s mouth and create the surgical stents for the implants. The surgical stent allows Dr. Maddahi to determine where to place the implant post without cutting open the gum. When the patient returns for their implant procedure, Dr. Maddahi uses the stents to quickly and precisely places the implants. Then, a temporary tooth is placed over the implant. The patient leaves the office in a few hours with a new smile. A permanent crown or series of crowns will be cemented into place once Dr. Maddahi has determined that the implant has fused to the bone.  Click here to watch a video segment about the dental implant procedure and learn about one patient’s experience. The Basics of Brushing and Flossing are Essential for Healthy Teeth and Gums

We’ve all been taught to brush our teeth twice daily to keep our teeth and gums clean and healthy. This basic daily activity helps prevent tooth decay, which can lead to common dental problems like cavities, root canals and tooth loss. Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, a Los Angeles family dentist, has some advice on how to properly care for our teeth with some basics on choosing the best tooth brushes and dental floss. We’ve all been taught to brush our teeth twice daily to keep our teeth and gums clean and healthy. This basic daily activity helps prevent tooth decay, which can lead to common dental problems like cavities, root canals and tooth loss. A recent GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare survey of American adults found that many of us feel our dental health care habits are not as good as they should be. Many reported that they commonly skip one of the three basic dental hygiene habits that include daily brushing and flossing as well as annual dental cleanings. While 84 percent of those surveyed brushed their teeth to keep them healthy, about half reported that they had not been to the dentist for a cleaning within the last year. Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, a Los Angeles family dentist, has some advice on how to properly care for our teeth with some basics on choosing the best tooth brushes and dental floss. With dozens of toothbrushes to choose from, it is hard to know which one to choose. According to Dr. Maddahi, “Start by choosing a soft toothbrush with rounded bristles. These brushes are strong enough to clean the teeth and gums without scrubbing them to hard.” “I also recommend electric brushes for my patients that may experience difficulty brushing their teeth.  It is important to remember to replace your toothbrushes every two to three months and after colds.” Flossing is the next step in good oral care. Dr. Maddahi recommends finding the type of floss that you prefer.  Dental floss can be waxed or unwaxed, ribbon or flat, and flavored or unflavored. The type of floss is not as important as just being sure to floss every day. Regular dental check ups are essential to prevent tooth decay from damaging the teeth and causing problems such as cavities and root canals. Dr. Maddahi recommends that his patients schedule two dental visits a year for good dental health.  Click here to create a customized oral health care plan for you and your family. High-tech Dental Restoration System Creates Permanent Same-Day Dental Crowns

Dental crowns have gone high tech with fast and natural-looking options for patients in Los Angeles.  Dental restorations, like crowns, have often taken several appointments to complete.  Now a new dental system has eliminated the need for multiple appointments or temporary crowns.  Permanent dental crowns can be designed and completed in just one afternoon. Los Angeles dental restoration specialist and cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, has begun using the Cerec System to give his patients high-quality, dental crowns quickly and conveniently. After the patient has been settled comfortably into the examination chair, Dr. Maddahi and his team begin the Beverly Hills same-day dental crownprocedure by preparing the tooth and removing any areas of decay or affected tissue.  A digital optical impression of the tooth is taken with a specialized camera.  Dr. Maddahi examines the 3-D image as he begins to design a customized crown for the patient. Digital images of the natural teeth are also taken and analyzed using the Shade Vision System to determine their exact hue and color variations.  The data is used to help select the correct shade of ceramic material for the dental crown. Once the design is completed it is sent to the in-office milling machine where the crown is sculpted in about ten to 20 minutes.  Dr. Maddahi makes sure the crown fits properly and tests the bite, before the permanent crown is polished and bonded into place.  The appointment takes just a few hours instead of having to return for multiple appointments.  Click here to watch a video segment on this dental restoration procedure. Missing Teeth are no Longer a Problem with Same-Day Dental Implants

Missing teeth are a problem for millions of Americans.  The American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeonsreports that 69% of adults between the ages of 35 and 44 have lost a permanent tooth due to gum disease, tooth decay, accidents or other dental issues.  And as we get older, the problem gets worse with 26% of 74-year-olds missing all of their permanent teeth. Traditionally, missing teeth means dentures, partials and bridges.  Each of these replacement dental devices has its drawbacks for example loose or painful dentures can make it difficult to eat and speak. New advances in dental implant technology has made the dental implant procedure easier and faster than ever, so now missing teeth doesn’t necessarily mean dentures or bridges. Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, an expert implant dentist in Beverly Hills, utilizes the advanced Sirona GALILEOS Implant System to treat his patients who have missing teeth.  This innovative system allows Dr. Maddahi to provide same-day dental implants. The dental implant process used to take up to a year to complete between multiple dental appointments for x-rays and impressions, months of planning and lengthy recovery periods. The Sirona GALILEOS employs a three-dimensional imaging process that produces images of the patient’s entire jaw and joint area in just a few minutes during a preliminary planning appointment.  These images are essential in helping Dr. Maddahi and his team prepare for the dental implant procedure. Once the proper placement for the implant is determined using the generated images, Dr. Maddahi creates a surgical stent in his lab on a model of the patient’s jaw.  On the day of the implant procedure, the stent is placed over the teeth and gums serving as a guide and enabling the doctor to precisely place the implant in the jaw.  Accurate placement allows for much less post-op pain and bleeding as well as faster recovery and greater predictability.  Because all the preparation is done in advance, a temporary crown can be created and placed over the implant once the procedure is completed.  A permanent crown will be placed in about six months, once the dental implant has fused to the jaw bone. The advantage of dental implants is that they look and feel like natural teeth.  Patients can chew without the pain or gum irritation that dentures can cause.  For more information about dental implants or to schedule a complimentary smile evaluation, contact our office.

A Sparkling Smile can be Yours with Professional Teeth Whitening

A glance in the mirror confirms it; your once sparkling smile is starting to look a little dingy, yellowed and gray.  Now, you can bring that sparkle back in just about a hour with professional teeth whitening. Los Angeles cosmetic dentist, Dr. Kourosh Maddahi, specializes in restoring smiles at his Beverly Hills office.  He offers his patients the Zoom2! teeth whitening system for fast, brighter and whiter smiles. Stained and yellowed teeth are common today and can be due to a diet of liquids and foods like dark colas, wine, coffee, tomato sauce, berries and tobacco products, all of which can discolor the enamel of the teeth. “As we age our teeth can begin to darken and take on a yellowish or off-white shade.  A Zoom whitening treatment is a fast and convenient way to remove built-up stains and bring your teeth back to the natural, white color of your youth,” Dr. Maddahi said. Zoom 2! consists of a specially formulated hydrogen peroxide gel, which is activated with a laser light.  The process whitens your teeth while not causing damage to the teeth’s enamel.  Dr. Maddahi begins the Zoom procedure by protecting the gum area and applying the whitening gel.  A laser light is then positioned so the whitening process can begin.  During the procedure, you are seated comfortably allowing you to relax and watch a movie or listen to music for about a hour.  Click here to view a segment on teeth whitening and dental bonding. The popular Zoom! whitening procedure is one of the leading whitening systems used by dentists like Dr. Maddahi.  After whitening, patients find that with proper care their teeth stay whiter and brighter for approximately two years.
