Porcelain jackets are recommended for patients allergic to metal. The porcelain jacket gives a more lifelike image to the tooth than crowns that have metal underneath. The main drawback is that they fracture more easily since they are made of porcelain.

With a porcelain jacket, the margin where the crown meets the tooth cannot be 100 percent sealed like a regular crown. There are some drawbacks, but, some cements help seal the tooth.

Dentures can last quite a while. The only things that could happen is that, over time, the gum and the bone can recede. This can make the dentures loose and need to be realigned. If you eat a lot of things that would wear down the teeth, you may have to replace them every five to ten years, because the dentures are made of plastic. If you eat anything hard that fractures the dentures, it will have to be repaired. But, if you keep breaking the dentures they will have to be replaced.
