Biological Dentistry
A biological dentist works to use natural products or materials that are more compatible with the patient’s body. A biological dentist avoids using any type of metals in the mouth. This would include avoiding metals underneath the crowns or using metal crowns as well. To some extent, biological dentists may not use implants because these materials would be incompatible with the patient’s body. Biological dentists stay away from root canals because they cause toxins in the body.
Should I replace my silver fillings?
I am a firm believer that the mercury content in silver fillings is not good for you. My personal preference is not to have any silver fillings.

A Holistic Dentist uses materials that are more bio-compatible with the body as a whole. They also don’t use metal in the mouth. How do composite and metal fillings differ?
A composite dental filling is made of plastic materials that are tooth-colored to match the natural teeth. At our office we don’t use silver or metal fillings. These types of fillings are made with mercury. Studies have shown that mercury vapors can be emitted from the fillings and the vapors have been shown to be hazardous. Gold fillings are another type of dental fillings. These fillings are more resilient than composite fillings.
Is there such a thing as tooth-colored fillings?
Yes, there are tooth-colored fillings. They are made of resin, or plastic, and come in many colors to match the color of the teeth.
Is it possible to be allergic to amalgam?
Yes, it is possible to be allergic to any dental material. It is best not to have amalgam fillings, because of the constant mercury vapors released.
Are dental amalgams safe?
There are two schools of thought on dental amalgams. Because of the mercury vapor that is being transmitted from the dental amalgams on a daily basis, especially when you drink anything hot or when you chew on it. Because of this, I do not recommend amalgam fillings, but the American Dental Association still endorses them.
